Marge Levy
In Memoriam
Marge Levy
(Dec 3, 1943 — Oct 18, 2025)
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Marjorie Levy, a cherished honorary member of NWDC, respected leader, and tireless advocate for artists and the arts.
Marge’s distinguished career included serving as Dean of the Art School at the University of Michigan and, beginning in 1991, as Executive Director of Pilchuck Glass School. During her tenure at Pilchuck, she led the organization through its 25th anniversary, commissioned a history publication, established a major scholarship endowment, and created key staff positions that strengthened the school’s foundation for years to come.
A graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art and a dedicated ceramist, Marge devoted her life to supporting artists through teaching, leadership, and advocacy. She also served as a trustee of the American Craft Council and the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA).
In 2016, she co-founded SOLA (Support for Old Lady Artists) with her friend Ginny Ruffner, celebrating accomplished women artists who have not received the recognition they deserve.
Marge will be remembered for her fearlessness, generosity, and steadfast belief in the power of art to change lives. Her impact on our community and the larger craft world endures.
A public memorial will be held in early 2026. To receive details or share memories and photos, please email memories@solaseattle.org.
