"Liminality" by Anna Macrae
Mixed medium, cardboard, house paint. 20" x 24" x 2”, 3 lbs.
Anna Macrae is a British born artist, living in Seattle since 2001.
She considers herself a lifelong artist, and from an early age surrounded herself with art making. Macrae’s mother and grandmother were both artists, their skills were often put to use in a more practical and domestic environment, but their approach to life instilled in her creative possibilities in everyday objects and situations.
Macrae’s work is generated in response to the materials that she uses together with the techniques & processes that she has developed. She is interested in texture & surface & playing with non-precious unconventional materials, following an intuitive path, where disrespect for conventions are primary.
-------
Anna Macrae’s intention is to make work that is relatable, complex and slightly awkward. I often embed familiar items beneath the surface to give a fresh unexpected texture and to create dialog.
