"Articulated Layers" by Barbara De Pirro

$750.00

Fiber, Acrylic, Glass Beads, Stainless Steel Armature. 8" x 8" x 5", 2 lbs. 2024.

“Reflecting on organic layers of dried flower petals, seed pods, lichen... Mimicking these textures using a combination of fiber & acrylic I've created individual segments. Each piece has been threaded onto a stainless steel armature with glass bead spacers. This process enables the form to articulate into shape, allows light to form intriguing shadows plus stabilizes the form for wall display.“

Barbara De Pirro is a mixed media painter, sculptor and educator. She works both two and three dimensionally, translating her concepts from one media to the other.

De Pirro's artwork reflects her fascination & appreciation of nature. Her daily rural walks not only nurture the body but they also inspire new patterns, textures & forms. Her observations are captured in her photography then translated abstractly into her art. Look closely & you can see this visual language as it appears in both 2 & 3 dimensional form. With each project she strives to create a sense of wonder; enticing the viewer to turn that vision outwards into the natural world, nurturing an understanding of that interconnection and encouraging reflection about our relationship with the environment.

As an educator, De Pirro's expansive knowledge of acrylic, combined equally with her broad understanding of a full range of media opens the door to vast possibilities. All of this, she generously shares with other artists in her workshops.

De Pirro’s artwork has been commissioned and exhibited in Museums, Galleries, Sculpture Parks, Art Centers and Public Art Organizations. She is a member of Northwest Designer Craftsman and Surface Design Association. She has received both a Grant and Fellowship Residency through Artist Trust. Additionally De Pirro’s artwork has been published in multiple articles, publications and books.
